Bet you wouldn't have thought that these two items could fit together snugly? Well guess what? They sure can!
If you've read my older posts, you're aware that I work in a deli, mostly serving lunch meats and cold salads etc. Well last week, there was something wrong with our fire alarm system and the silly buzzer alarm kept going off. This was especially irritating because the buzzer is directly above the meat slicer and is INCREDIBLY LOUD!!
It was, however, interesting as well as irritating. The reason it was interesting was that every time my fire alarm went off, the customers in the store looked up to see where the alarm was coming from and, instead of rushing the other way, away from my huge industrial oven, my two fryers, my three hot cases, full of electrical charge, they instead rushed towards it. You may think, “Well of course, they were rushing over to find out if there was a problem!” But you would be wrong. They were actually rushing over to buy their lunch meats and then to leave the store. Within a matter of 20 minutes of the alarm going off, I would have served every customer in the store, and the ones who entered the store after the alarm was already going off, would pause for a moment in the entry and, upon not finding the way blocked off, make a dash for the meat counter to get their meat as quickly as possible in the face of this potentially life threatening emergency.
This situation has made me wonder… if there ever is a fire in the Deli, and the 2 fryers full of 10 gallons of propane heated oil do not immediately explode, do I have any chance of escape? Or will I simply be mobbed on my way out by angry customers, furious that the slicer of their meat is not using the last precious moments of her life to get them their 96 grams of Blackforest Ham? After all, it IS on sale this week…
