We have decided to postpone Christmas - at least the gift-giving part - perhaps indefinetly.  What do you buy a person who lives with you when money is pooled and tight? 

We went shopping today for a few decorations and food bits (there is *no* way we'll postpone a yummy turkey dinner!)  and realized how ridiculously expensive all the "gifty" items were, and how little either of us really wanted them in comparison to, say, a kitchen table (which we haven't quite managed to get since moving into an apartment with more than one room).  Not that we can afford a kitchen table, but what fabulously happy couple doesn't have an instant noodle and tomato soup story behind them!?

So, instead, we simply bought some tinsel for the cat to eat and some lights for the guinea pig to electrocute herself with and called it a day!
